Updates on the Babies -- 2000
August 2000
The babies went straight to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
(NICU) after their birth on August 9, 2000. It was hard
for Diane especially because she could not see the babies
or hold them for a couple of days because of her surgery.
All the babies suffered spells of Apnea (where they would stop
breathing and sometimes just tickling their feet would bring
their heart rates back up). All of the nurses in the NICU
were fabulous. They all loved the babies so much that they
requested them on their shift.
September 2000
Sydni was the first one born and the first one out of NICU.
She came home on September 4th. Grandma and Grandpa spoiled
her so much by never putting her down. On her last doctor
visit, she weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz.
Caleb was the second one to come home. He came home on
September 14th. Even though he hated to leave his brother
in Austin, he was ready to get home and be held by everyone
because he knew Sydni was getting too much attention. On
his last doctor's visit, he weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz.
Jacob was the last one to come home. Sydni and Caleb went with
Diane and Keith to pick him up from Seton NICU on September 20th. He is still by far the
biggest baby. He is the most alert and has cut into holding
time with Syndi and Caleb. On his last doctor's visit, he
weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz.
October 2000
Sydni had another checkup on October 4th and she
weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. She's trying to catch up to her
brothers. They are all doing great -- although they do have
a touch of colic and stuffy noses.
Caleb and Jacob both had checkups on October 12th.
Caleb now weighs 8 lb. 6 oz. and is measuring 20 in. Jacob
now weighs 8 lb. 14 oz. and he is measuring 20 1/2 in.
They both had their first vaccine shots (4 shots each).
Luckily, neither of them got sick from the shots.
Diane, Keith, Granny Gran and Grandpa have been taking
the kids out for walks now. They love being outside. It
usually puts them to sleep.
Cousin Lindsey spent a full day with the family this week
helping Diane out. She carried the babies so much that
they are now even more spoiled. Caleb absolutely fell in
love with Lindsey. He was even winking at her.
The babies all had their shots to ward off any viruses on
Saturday the 14th. They all did OK, although Sydni did get
spooked when the nurse gave her the shot.
Sydni now weighs 8 lb. 2 oz.; Jacob weighs 9 lb. 3 oz.; and
Caleb weighs 8 lb. 9 oz.
Sydni had another doctor's appointment on Wednesday the 18th. She
got her vaccine shots. The little princess now weighs 8 lb.
13 oz. and measures 20 1/2 inches.
November 2000
Caleb and Jacob both had a doctors appointment on November 1st. Caleb now
weighs 10 lbs. 7 oz. and is 21 1/4 inches long. Jacob is 10 lbs. 13 oz. and is
21 1/4 inches long.
All three babies went to get their shots today. They did great. Just a little bit
of crying when they poked them but they were fine after that.
December 2000
The babies continue to grow by leaps and bounds. They will all be baptized on December 17. It is amazing to watch them grow. They have all started to notice each other more often. Caleb loves playing with his hands. Jacob is teething and you can feel one tooth coming through. Sydni always has a smile on her face. All three love the same toy, the Sparkling Symphony Gym, and since we only have one we are all learning how to share. They all wake up with smiles on their faces in the morning which makes the sleepless nights a little easier to take. The boys are once again proving that they love the ladies -- their favorite movie is the Little Mermaid (mainly because of Ariel). And Jacob loves the movie, "White Christmas". His favorite part of the movie is when the Haynes sisters sing in their red dresses. We are all eagerly anticipating their first Christmas.
All three babies had their 4 month check-up on December 18. They all got four shots and Caleb had to get blood taken to check if he was anemic (he's not). They all cried when they were given the shots but quickly recovered. Sydni even fell right back to sleep.
Sydni now weighs 13 lbs. 10 oz. and measures 23 inches. Jacob weighs 14 lbs. 5 oz. and Caleb weighs 13 lbs. 14 oz. Both boys are measuring 23 3/4 inches.
The babies got baptized on Sunday, December 17. They did great during the service. They were a little overwhelmed by all the people there, so there weren't as many smiles and coos as we are used to, but they looked adorable.
