Christmas this year was great. The kids had a wonderful time. They received lots of toys and clothes. They are having a ball playing with all the new toys -- we took out all the old toys for a while. The family spent four days celebrating Christmas. Daddy Keith's family got together on Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday. Mommy Diane's family got together on Christmas Eve (Monday). The kids participated in Christmas Nativity play on Christmas Eve. Jacob and Caleb were shephards and Sydni was an angel. All the kids who dressed up were too cute. We thought the kids were going to expect to open presents every day after having four days full of gift opening. But they seem to have adjusted well.
Jacob's cold turned into bronchitis. He went to the doctor on Wednesday and Friday. He's doing much better now. Hopefully the other two won't get it as bad as he had it. Sydni and Caleb are both starting to get a runny nose.
The kids visited Santa at the mall the week before Christmas. Jacob went right up to Santa and said hi and sat on his lap. Sydni followed him and sat on his lap. Caleb threw a fit and didn't want to go near him. Granny Gran tried to get him to sit still for a minute while Auntie D snapped a picture but he wouldn't cooperate. Santa gave them all gingerbread cookies after it was over and they all enjoyed that.
Sydni is turning into quite a little helper around the house. She gives each of her brother's their juice bottles and bugs them until they take them. If they drop them she's right there to pick them up and give them back to them. She is starting to talk a lot more too. In one day she said "grandpa, food, remote, get off (to Jacob who was getting on top of a box--he obliged), bubbles" and much more that I can't recall at this time.
Caleb is also starting to talk a lot more. He is on this "ojitos" thing right now. He will squint his eyes real tight and show you all his teeth. He is squealing a lot too. He's our very happy little boy. He loves going down the slide they got for Christmas.
Jacob is still a little bully when it comes to playing with his brother and sister. He wants whatever toy either one has and doesn't hesitate to take it from them. He has been in a very good mood even though he hasn't been feeling well for a little while.
Mommy, Daddy & Auntie D took the kids to the Cameron Park Zoo a couple of weeks ago. The kids thoroughly enjoyed it. The lions approached them and and stood on their back legs and growled at them. Thank goodness for the protective glass. There was a deer that stood at attention when we passed them and stared at the kids as if he had never seen triplets before. We'll visit more zoos I'm sure.
All three are starting to get a bit of a cold. Auntie D has been sick and it seems to have caught up with the kids too. Hopefully it will be a quick one.
Sydni enjoyed her first "Christmas Cookie Exchange" party on Saturday. She went with Granny Gran and Auntie D to the family party and had a ball. It was the first time she has had gingerbread cookies (thanks Tia Yolanda) and she loved them. Cookies and milk...yum yum.
Jacob is on a waving kick right now. If he sees you enter a room he will stand up and wave to you. When Barney is over, he waves bye bye to him. He is also enjoying learning how to do the "itsy bitsy spider". He makes the spider crawl up his arm.
Sydni loves the Barney Christmas video. On the video, a little girl sings Silent Night through sign language. Whenever it comes on, Sydni will try to imitate her and do sign language.
Caleb is still in love with Aspen from the Baby Einstein videos. We hadn't played these videos in a while but put it on last night and he fell in love all over again. His entire face lights up when he sees this little girl. Oh to be young and in love.
The kids are all doing well. They have developed favorites lately. Barney has entered our lives and the house. This has come as a surprise to everyone! As soon as you say Barney's name all three run to the TV to watch him. They don't even want to sit to watch him -- they'd rather stand so they can dance when they sing. Sydni calls him "Bar". We were at Toys 'R Us and she saw a Barney doll and had to have him. He sings the "I Love You" song and whenever it comes on, she puts him close to her and tilts her head to one side.
All three are into dancing a lot right now. They like one Christmas song from "The Wiggles". It's in the intro to the Barney Christmas video. Jacob actually twirls around. Caleb and Sydni will shake their bottom half and bend at the waist. It is too cute.
Pasta is turning out to be their favorite food. They especially love mac and cheese and spaghetti. Jacob says "more" whenever he sees food that he wants. Sydni says "pease" and Caleb just points and screams. We get the point though.
Jacob is eating with a spoon now. Sydni tries to eat with her spoon. Caleb tries to eat with the handle.
They are all trying to do a flip. They will stand up and then put their heads down to the floor and try to flip over. Not very safe. Barney must have done this on TV at some point.
Sydni is turning into quite the little helper around the house. She will pick up all the sippy cups when they are finished with them and throw them out of the play area. She gives each of her brothers their cups when she sees them on the floor. If she gets a hold of a wet wipe or tissue she starts cleaning everything from the walls to the floors. They all help put away the toys. Not all at once but usually at least one will help. Especially if there's a little encouraging clap that comes when they put a toy in the bin.
We took all three to get the second/last of their flu shots a couple of weeks back. They all did a great job. Not too much crying. And it only took us two hours (3 mins. with the doctor and 3 mins. with the nurses to give the shots) to get out of there. That must be a record.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
The entire family spent Thanksgiving together and had a wonderful time. The kids loved the turkey and dressing complete with all the trimmings.
We took the children to see Santa Claus earlier this week. They were apprehensive about meeting him. Sydni got as far as sitting on his lap the second time around but the boys still didn't want anything to do with him. Santa was very patient. Hopefully by Christmas we'll have a picture of all three of the kids with Santa.
All three are still talking up a storm and running around the house like crazy. They get so excited when they are able to run free. They especially enjoy being outside.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA!!! XO XO XO
The kids had a fun Halloween. They went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood and then headed over to the City sponsored Spooktacular downtown. We were ten minutes late for the costume contest so we didn't get a chance to have the kids entered. They were all dressed as Dalmation puppies. Mommy did an excellent job with the costumes. Auntie D made the wagon into a firetruck but the kids did not want to ride in it last night.
This past Sunday, the kids had a Halloween play-time with their cousins Noah, Gaby, Sierra, Maddy, and Heaven. It is great to see the kids all playing together.
We took the kids to get their flu shots this past Saturday. It stung a little but Sydni was the only one who didn't cry. We took Caleb to the doctor last Wednesday because he was still coughing a lot. He was diagnosed with bronchitis and given medication and put on a nebulizer. He is doing much better now -- just about all cleared up.
All three are doing great. They are talking up a storm. Jacob mimics whatever you say and will read along with you or sing along with you. Sydni is into copying everything her brothers do. If they give you a kiss, she comes up and gives you a kiss. Caleb runs around sticking out his stomach and squealing with delight at his brother and sister. They are such a joy!
Our heart and prayers go out to the entire Blomquist family. The children lost their beloved "Mimi", Great-Grandmother Mildred Blomquist, on Friday morning. She was a magnificent woman and the children loved visiting her and Grand-Dad whenever possible.
Stats: Sydni weighs 23 lbs. 8 oz. and is measuring 31 inches Jacob weighs 22 lbs. 8 oz. and is measuring 31 1/2 inches Caleb weighs 22 lbs. 9 oz. and is measuring 31 3/4 inchesThe kids had a doctor's appointment today. They are all doing great. We were asked to get them off of bottles and to get rid of the pacifiers. That is much easier said than done -- especially with three.
All three are walking great. Caleb is actually running. They still tumble every once in a while but they have all pretty much given up crawling.
Stats: Sydni weighs 23 lbs. 8 oz. Jacob weighs 22 lbs. 12 oz. Caleb weighs 22 lbs. 4 oz.Sydni started to walk last Wednesday. She just took off on her own but refused to show Mommy for a day or so. Jacob started to semi-walk on Monday. He's not quite ready to give up his being held all the time quite yet.
The kids all went to the doctor on Monday because they are all still suffering from a bad cough. They were all given the OK by the doctor but will need to take medication for a few days. It seems to be a bug going around.
We took the kids to "My Gym" today for a little play group. They had fun. We're trying to get a play group together in our area so they can play with other kids. They love that interaction with other kids.
While we were out shopping yesterday we noticed that Babies 'R Us in Austin had a new photography shop that does photos in an instant. No sitting fees and you pay for what you want. Plus a free 8X10 as a gift for their grand opening. Check it out in your area. The store is called "Kiddie Kandids".
We took the kids to the Farmers Market today to play in the pumpkin patch. They had so much fun climbing the pumpkins and playing with the hay. We got some great shots of them.
Sydni is on the verge of walking. She's been taking three or four steps at a time. She gets so excited that she flings her entire upper body on whatever is near her.
The kids are all pretty much over their colds. Jacob still has a slight cough but they are all doing much better.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!!! XO XO XO
Caleb is now running (or his own little version of running). Sydni took three steps yesterday. She just stood up in the middle of the room and took three steps by herself. Jacob takes one step every now and then.
All three have colds right now (as do Mommy and Auntie D -- thanks kids!). Sydni has learned how to blow her own nose (very cute I might add).
The kids are glad to have Grandma Sherry (w/Grandpa Ray, Aunt Sheila & Mike) back safely from her recent trip to Germany. She was there during the recent terrorist attacks and had a hard time getting back to the US. We're glad they are all back safe and sound.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those whose lives were lost in these horrific incidents. A terrorist attack on the US is the last thing anyone would have expected to happen when we woke up yesterday morning.
It is difficult to be excited about anything at this time but we do want to note that our baby boy Caleb is walking now. He started walking on Monday. The others will follow soon I am sure.
Granny Gran and Auntie D took the babies to Chuck E. Cheese last Friday. They absolutely loved their little adventure. They had snacks, danced with the music, played in the ball pit, rode a car, and just generally had fun. Jacob climbed about four steps (for the first time) to jump into the ball pit. Caleb followed him for about a step and then thought better of it.
All three are still biting each other. This usually happens when one takes the others toys. Sharing has been hard on all three. It doesn't seem to matter if there are three of one toy or not, they still seem to go for the same toy.
Stats: Sydni weighs 23 lbs. 15 oz. and is measuring 30 inches Jacob weighs 21 lbs. 14 oz. and is measuring 30 1/2 inches Caleb weighs 21 lbs. 12 oz. and is measuring 30 inchesThe babies had their first year well-check doctor's appointment today. They all seem to be doing well. Even with the enormous weight gain for one in particular, the doctor said none have a weight problem. They are all doing great developmentally. All three say quite a few words--a few of them are momma, dadda, blue, bear, outside, tree, balloon (comes out like boon) and Sydni says D (for Auntie D). They have all taken a couple of steps now so we are hoping they'll start walking soon.
They all smack their lips to throw kisses at you. Sydni and Jacob each give "ojitos". They will especially give them to get out of trouble.
We are still having a major issue with biting. All three bite each other when one of the others invade their space. This happens quite a bit because they all want to play with the same toy at the same time. Buying three of one toy has not helped at all. They still will play with just one at a time.
The babies had a wonderful birthday. They had a huge party on Sunday, August 12th at Rowe Valley. It was a carnival theme where we played Ring Toss, Duck Pond, Roll the Ball; ate hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn and cotton candy; hit a few pinatas and took pictures with a cut-out clown. The kids seemed to enjoy themselves as did the nearly 100 friends and family members who attended.
Thank you to everyone who gave the kids wonderful gifts. They are enjoying everything.
Now for a quick update on what's been going on with the kids since their first birthday.
Caleb has taken a few steps. Every once in a while he will take a few steps but then won't do it again for a couple of days. Sydni likes to play like she is walking. We will have two people sit on the floor and have her walk (with help) to one and then she'll crawl back to the other person and just giggle like it's a game to her. Jacob doesn't really show an interest in walking on his own right now.
We have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday (the first year check-up) so we'll see how much weight everyone has gained.
The kids are doing better at eating "graduate" foods. They really like the chicken sticks and green beans. We let them eat by themselves (it's messy but fun to watch -- not so much to clean up though).
Other than these few developments, things are pretty much the same.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US
Sydni, Jacob & Caleb turned one today. What a year it has been. The babies woke up to hugs, kisses and cars, tractors, and jeeps. We are all getting ready for their big birthday bash on Sunday. We had a small cake for them at home to commemorate the big day but will celebrate in full force this weekend.
None of the babies are walking yet. They will walk (or in Caleb's case run) with an adult holding their hands but none are brave enough yet to try it on their own. We were hoping they'd be walking by their birthday but since that didn't happen, we're hoping they'll walk by their party.
Caleb continues to bite. Jacob continues to bite himself. And Sydni has taken the "Queen of the World" title to an all new level. She woke up throwing tantrums and not wanting to share anything with her brothers.
All three are familiar with "time out"; Caleb especially. He laughs when we tell him we are taking him to "time out" so we're looking for another solution to that problem.
Thank you to everyone who helped out this past year. Whether it was baby-sitting, helping around the house, bringing pampers, formula, clothes, toys, and keeping the family in your prayers, words cannot begin to thank you enough. We especially could not have gotten through this year without Granny Gran, Grandpa, Grandma Sherry and Auntie D for their constant and unfailing love and daily care of the babies. THANK YOU!!!
Today was another adventure to the emergency room. Mommy called the doctor because Caleb bit Jacob on Friday evening and it looked like it broke skin. It became a little bruised and swollen. Soon after she left a message for the doctor, Sydni found a little something to eat on the floor and proceeded to put it in her mouth. It is pretty disgusting -- it's slimy, slippery and not to be confused with Geico. Luckily Mommy saw her chewing (or actually gumming it) and digged in her mouth and was disgusted at what she pulled out. She had not actually eaten any part of it but just the fact that it was in her mouth made us all sick. Sydni was not phased by it in the least. Mommy herself had not been able to catch this little critter when she noticed it got in the house so it's a mystery to us all how Sydni caught it. (some of us think she sat on it)
Once the doctor called back, she advised Mommy to take them both to the emergency room to be safe. So, we all took off for the hospital and both saw the doctor and got a clean bill of health. As far as animals are concerned, this was one of the cleanest that Sydni could have put in her mouth. And Jacob's bite mark did not actually break skin so he was OK. And Caleb bit him in one of the more harmless parts of the body -- the shoulder.
All three have now been to the emergency room before their first birthday.
As for Caleb, he will not stop biting. We give him Tylenol, Motrin, and Baby Anbesol, teething rings, and keep him well fed but he still continues to bite. Jacob still bites a little bit but not near the amount that Caleb does. Sydni will try to bite her brothers when they won't keep their hands off of her. She absolutely hates to be touched by them, especially early in the morning or directly after her nap.
Mommy, Granny Gran and Auntie D took the babies to their first GYMBOREE play class. The kids absolutely loved it. They got to play with other kids, roll around, climb, dance, play with Gymbo the clown, and play under a parachute (that was their favorite game).
When we first got there and sat down, Jacob immediately went to the center of the room with the other children that were already there. Caleb followed soon after and Sydni had to get familiar with the rest of the room before she joined in.
We will definitely be signing them up for classes.
Stats: Sydni weighs 23 lbs. 14 oz.Sydni had to go to the doctor because for the past five days she has refused to eat her baby food. The doctor's diagnosis -- STUBBORN! (she also said she's more like Auntie D than Mommy -- not sure if that's in looks or in being stubborn) She is in the terrible two stage (temper tantrum wise) and she's not even a year yet.
Sydni is ready for table food. All three have been eating limited amounts of table food but it seems that is all Sydni wants now. Caleb will eye what everyone is eating and crawl to you and just stare at you to see if you will give him some food. Jacob will pretty much copy what Caleb does (in terms of eating) so he eats what Caleb eats.
Jacob and Caleb both stood up by themselves for more than a few seconds yesterday. It won't be long now before they are all walking.
All three fight for Grandpa's attention when he gets to the house at night. They all point to the door to get him to take them outside. All three have Grandpa (and everyone else it seems) wrapped around their little fingers.
We have been having more visitors lately and that is great for the kids. Recently Cousin Gaby came over for a play date; Cousin Cameryn came over with Aunt Yolanda and Aunt Lola; Cousin Noah comes over quite a bit and all three look up to him because he gets excited with all the toys. Sydni especially loves Cousin Noah. Cousin Chelsea and her friend Haley came over to watch the boys a couple of weeks ago. And Uncle Greg and Aunt Donna came by when they were in town. The kids are getting used to seeing different faces so it is great to have all these visitors.
Things are going well with the babies. They are still trying to get back on their schedule following our recent trip. Hopefully they'll be sleeping through the night again soon.
They are all still getting around by crawling and walking by holding on to something. Caleb seems to be the first one to want to walk (or run) by himself.
We are busy planning their first birthday party (which will be on Sunday, August 12 for those family and friends who will be attending).
HAPPY 4th of JULY
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AUNTIE D!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMY!!! XO XO XO
The entire family just got back from a two-day trip to the Valley. It was a very long car ride (what usually takes 6 hours took 9-10 hours with the babies). The babies enjoyed the trip the first day (until the last 30 mins.) and especially enjoyed the attention they got from everyone at all the places we stopped along the way. The second day was a bit more stressful because the babies were so tired of their car seats. We stopped quite a bit to give them a break, change them and feed them. At one point, Auntie D said she had only driven 50 miles in the last three hours. Sydni was so tired of her car seat that she would lift her behind up in the air as soon as we sat her in her seat.
On the way home, we had to pass through the Border Patrol inspection stop and they asked Mommy what group she was carrying in the van. She laughed and said it was her family. Out of all the hispanics in the group, Keith is the one who got questioned about his being a resident of the U.S. (must be that deep tan he has).
Sydni is the first of the three to wave hello and good-bye. She started doing that today. She used to do it when she went to sleep but now she waves at you when you leave or when you get to the house. Too cute!
Sydni, Jacob & Caleb attended their first Bar-B-Que today. One of their Godmother's, Aunt Tina and her husband Domingo put steaks on the grill to thank Mommy and Auntie D for keeping Cousin Lindsey while Aunt Tina was out of town. The babies played in the pool and could smell the food, but they had to settle for baby food this time. It won't be long before they're able to enjoy steaks!
As expected, Jacob also came down with the same viral infection as Caleb and Sydni. Mommy and Granny Gran took him to the doctor on Thursday and to no one's surprise he was sick. Aside from not being able to eat well and a slight fever, he is doing better. The slurry seems to work well for them. While they were sick, none of them wanted to eat baby food. It was formula and cold Jell-O (for Sydni at least). Caleb seems to be completely better now. Sydni is just about there and Jacob should be better in the next day or so.
All three hold their bottles by themselves now. It is so much easier on us now that we don't have to try and hold three bottles at once.
Caleb is definitely going to be the little terror of the group. He's tried to get out of his stroller (while strapped in); this week he stood up in his high chair (while strapped in); he has learned how to climb into his activity gym and stand up. He knows no fear. Caleb is still in love with the little blonde girl from the Baby Einstein video collection. He will squeal and smile the biggest smile when he sees her. It is too cute.
Jacob will still try to get whatever toy any of the other two have. His teeth still bother him -- but Auntie D's chin provides comfort for him. Jacob walked around the play yard by pushing his Sparkling Symphony Gym/Piano along the wall.
Sydni has become a little ham. She loves to laugh and she'll squint her eyes while she is laughing. She continues to fight going to bed or to take a nap -- she wants to make sure she doesn't miss anything.
Caleb and Sydni are both sick. Caleb developed a fever when we came back from dinner on Saturday night. His fever continued to fluctuate Saturday night and Sunday. We called his doctor and were advised to take him in if his fever didn't improve. When his fever still had not broken on Sunday we took him to the emergency room. The doctor found that he had developed a viral infection which included ulcers in his mouth. This made it difficult for him to eat and drink. He gave us a slurry to numb the infected area. It seems to help. As soon as we got home from the emergency room, his fever broke.
Sydni developed a fever on Monday night. When it had not broken by Tuesday, Mommy packed up all three babies and took them to the doctor. It turns out that Sydni also has the viral infection. Sydni is normally a very patient and great baby. It is so hard to hear her cry in pain because knowing how she normally acts, she has got to be in pain. She is also on the same medication as Caleb.
The doctor told Mommy not to assume that all three would get the same ailments, but as soon as Mommy got home from the doctor's office, Jacob had devloped a fever. Luckily his fever broke this afternoon. He more than likely will end up with the same viral infection.
Aside from the infections, all three are doing well. Jacob is still teething. We can't tell where the teeth are coming in but he has all the symptons. All three are trying to get out of their rockers by themselves. Caleb has caught up to Jacob on his teeth. He too is teething. Sydni has four teeth on the bottom and two or three coming in on top.
Granny Gran is able to get Sydni to sleep by singing "Old MacDonald" to her. She cries if you sing lullabies to her because she knows you are trying to put her to sleep. Jacob has started rocking himself back to sleep in his crib. This is a big help because he used to scream at the top of his lungs and would have to be carried for a little while before he would go back to sleep. Caleb has taken to crying in his sleep and while you are trying to put him to sleep. But once he goes to sleep, he is usually out for the night. For three nights last week, they all slept through the night without a peep from 10 pm to 6 am. It was wonderful!
All three are missing their cousin Lindsey who stayed with us for a couple of weeks. Sydni especially misses her because cousin Lindsey spoiled her rotten.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!!!
Sydni, Jacob & Caleb went out to dinner with Mommy, Daddy, Auntie D, Granny Gran and Grandpa, Grandpa Carl and Grandma Barbara. The babies took the men in their lives out to celebrate Father's Day.
SYDNI IS CRAWLING!!!
The last of our babies started crawling today. Sydni had been toying with the idea of crawling by rocking back and forth on all fours but she finally took major crawling steps today. Now we're in trouble!!!
Caleb is already being solicited by telemarketers. Granny Gran intercepted a call for him earlier this week -- an operator wanted to see if he'd like a subscription to TV Guide. Caleb is our little stuntman. He tries to get out of whatever chair he is strapped into. It doesn’t matter if it’s his rocker, his highchair or even his stroller.
Jacob cannot quit biting Sydni. Today he actually left his mark on her shoulder. He is crawling around like mad. Whenever all three are in the activity yard, he will go from Caleb to Sydni and back and forth to get whatever toys they have. He is definitely the little bully of the group.
Sydni is just about ready to crawl. She is rocking back on all fours now. Sydni is back to being her patient self. She takes about 30 mins. to wake up now – at least before she’ll smile at anyone. She has learned that if you pretend to choke you will get quick attention. She attempts this at just about every meal.
JACOB IS CRAWLING!!!
Jacob started crawling on Tuesday. He would get on all fours but then only take one step before he would get too tired. But finally on Tuesday he started crawling around. He crawled to the bathroom last night when it was his turn to take a bath. Jacob is standing up on his own. He stands up in the crib and will try to grab whatever is on his dresser.
Jacob and Caleb both had a follow-up appointment on Monday for their ear infections. They bot got a stamp of approval from the doctor.
Caleb is creeping along while standing up now. He grabs a hold of the couch or the activity yard in the living room and will try to walk around the room. He has a long reach so we have to keep a close eye on him. Caleb is teething alot lately. He will put anything in his mouth to ease the pain.
Sydni is scooting backwards and getting on all fours. She is frustrated because she can not crawl or get around but she is making do with turning around. It won't be long now. Sydni has an even longer reach than her brothers so she can get anything she needs. She has two teeth coming in on the bottom so that makes four on the bottom and still zero on top.
Caleb and Sydni went to the doctor yesterday and it turns out that Caleb has an ear infection. He is taking medication now. Sydni is doing great.
The babies had an eye appointment today. The came out of that with flying colors. They will not need to see the optometrist until they are three.
Since the babies all had to be in Austin for the eye appointment, we decided to take them to visit the doctors who helped bring them into the world (see pics of the doctors in the Family/Friends photo album). Dr. Binford is Mommy's OB/GYN. Dr. Berry is the high-risk doctor. Dr. Vaughn is the fertility specialist. Dr. Binford and Dr. Berry had not seen the babies since they were in the NICU. It was great to see them all with the babies and to thank them for all they did to bless us with these wonderful babies.
To round out the day, the babies all had their first haircut. It was actually Sydni's second haircut because she got a trim in the NICU so that a line could be put in her head. Uncle Louie (Louie's Hair Salon) did the honors. They all did good but Caleb did get scared with the electric razor. The boys really did need a haircut. Sydni just got a trim because she doesn't have much hair to cut.
We got the van just in time for this busy day. It came in yesterday. It is HUGE but very comfortable. Auntie D continues to make jokes about how big it is (does Mommy need a commercial license to drive it?). When Mommy was taking the van home for a test drive a lady at the dealership was standing behind her when she was putting in the car seats. The lady made a comment about the car seats and Mommy asked her if she could help her and the lady said she was just waiting to get into the courtesy van. Too funny!
Caleb continues to crawl up a storm (see photo in Caleb's Photo Album). He now crawls to the bathroom when it is time for his bath. Jacob is still scooting around. Sydni sits up and rocks to try and get on her stomach. She gets angry when she doesn't move. Caleb and Sydni both pull up on the rail in their cribs so Mommy has had to lower their beds. Caleb tried to get off the changing table the other day.
Jacob wouldn't eat for a couple of days so Mommy took him to the Doctor on Monday and it turns out that he has an ear infection.
Auntie D just read the "Babywise" book (after quite a few people recommended it) so we are now trying to put the babies on a regular schedule. It is sometimes difficult since Auntie D and Granny Gran watch them part of the week and Mommy the other part. We all have different styles of getting the babies to eat and sleep. We're working on getting it all together though.
The family is finally getting a van (bus). It is a 12-passenger van (to fit the babies, Mommy, Daddy, Granny Gran, Grandpa, Auntie D and Grandma Sherry). Auntie D keeps referring to it as "THE BUS" or "THE DELIVERY VAN" because it is so huge--comfortable, but huge.
OUR BABY IS CRAWLING!!!
Caleb started crawling today. He just got up on all fours and started moving forward. He got tired after a while because everyone made him crawl just to watch him. The others still aren't crawling but they shouldn't be too far behind.
Happy Mother's Day
We had a wonderful Mother's Day today. Mommy, Daddy, Granny Gran, Grandpa, Auntie D, Grandma Sherry and Grandpa Ray and the babies all enjoyed a wonderful lunch in Round Rock. It is quite hectic to take all three babies to a restaurant (this is the second time) but it was made a little easier with all the extra hands to help out. Mommy, Granny Gran (and even Auntie D) cried over the cards and gifts they all got. The babies showered Mommy with hugs and kisses on her first Mother's Day as a (Great) Mommy.
Teeth update: Caleb is trying to catch up to Jacob. He has four teeth coming in on top and one more on bottom. Sydni has one more coming in on the bottom but none on top yet. Jacob has bitten Sydni, Auntie D and himself at least once.
Crawling update: Sydni is starting to scoot backwards now. The boys are still scooting forward. Caleb is trying to get up on all fours but still not crawling that way.
Stats: Sydni weighs 20 lbs. 2 oz. and is measuring 27 1/2 inches Jacob weighs 20 lbs. 2 oz. and is measuring 28 1/2 inches Caleb weighs 19 lbs. 5 oz. and is measuring 29 inchesThe babies had their nine month well-check visit today. They are all doing extremely well and seem to be on target for their projected age.
Caleb is starting medication to control his reflux. He has been throwing up after just about every meal and bottle lately so the Doctor wants to see if we can control it with medication. We are also changing his formula. Poor baby -- he now has a different formula and a smaller size diaper than the other two.
Jacob and Caleb are both scooting along inch by inch -- and getting faster at it every day. Jacob is also scooting while sitting on his behind. He'll move his legs and get around like that -- Grandpa and Granny Gran say that Mommy used to do the same thing. Sydni still is not interested in crawling. Jacob is pulling up more too. Both boys are sleeping on their stomachs now (with the Doctors OK this has given Mommy, Granny Gran and Auntie D much relief).
The babies turn nine months old tomorrow. It is hard to believe they are this old already. Time really does pass by fast. We've been looking at their pictures of when they were first born lately and it is amazing how much they have grown. We have a doctors appointment tomorrow so we'll see how much weight they've put on.
It looks like Jacob is going to be the first one to crawl. He is scooting forwards and backwards. He doesn't pick up his body to go forward but rather he scoots up. Caleb is also trying to crawl. He gets up on all fours and kind of rolls back and forth. He is still rolling all over the place to get to where he wants to go. Sydni is not interested in crawling at all. She stays in one place and does a 360 degree turn around by just flapping her arms and legs like a bird.
We're trying to toughen Caleb up a little bit. He is too sweet. His brother and sister take all of his toys when they are playing on the floor together. Jacob has started leaning forward and getting in front of Caleb's face and screaming BLAHHHH at him. He learned this from one of the Einstein videos where the puppet comes out and screams. It is cute (Caleb doesn't think so though).
Jacob has nine teeth now. He attacks your chin and cheek to try to get relief. We've resorted to saying "kissy kissy" to get him to kiss you instead of biting you. Luckily he hasn't bitten his brother or sister yet (cross your fingers). Caleb has two teeth on the botton and one coming in on top. Sydni has two on the bottom and no signs of any on top yet.
All three say "Mama" and "Ba ba" on a regular basis now. Jacob said "Blues Clues" again the other day and Caleb said "bubbles". Sydni says "Dada".
Caleb is spending the night with Auntie D tonight. All three are on a rotation basis for spending the night with her.
Happy Birthday Granny Gran !!! XOXOXO
Jacob's picture has been chosen for publication in "Frozen Highlights". Auntie D and Mommy submitted the black and white photo of Jacob sleeping in an amateur photographer's contest and it has moved up to the semi-finalist contest. It will also be included in this book. We can only submit one photo at a time so we'll keep taking pictures and hopefully Caleb and Sydni will also be added to this book or another one.
The babies are doing great. They are getting outside more -- whenever the weather cooperates -- and they are loving it.
Sydni seems to laugh about 70% of the day now. She will sit there and look at her brothers and just squeal with delight. She scared Auntie D today -- while Auntie D was feeding Caleb, Sydni managed to stick her pacifier in her mouth backwards and developed quite a vacuum in it so she couldn't get it out (and Auntie D had a hard time too). She screamed bloody murder but I think she scared Auntie D more than she did herself. She also had a little accident on Daddy. Mommy was trying out a new swimsuit on her and Daddy wanted to hold her and the next thing he knew, he was soaked and so was the chair. She couldn't have been happier and didn't know what the fuss was all about. Needless to say, we'll be keeping that bathing suit.
Caleb is in love. All the kids love the video collection from Baby Einstein. There is this little blonde girl who comes out on almost all the videos and he just loves here. His entire face will glow and smile when she's on screen. Don't even try to get in his way or Jacob's way when they are watching TV.
Jacob is getting more teeth in. They seem to be bothering him more than the other two. He is getting much better at sleeping through the night and we are all thankful for that. Jacob is now trying to pull himself up on the sofa. They're still not crawling but they are trying hard.
The babies had their first Easter Egg hunt today. Aunt Yolanda had the hunt at her house and a week early so her grandbaby Cameryn could join in on the fun. The kids came home with quite a stash. They had fun.
The babies and the entire family went to church today. It was the babies first time attending mass. They did extremely well. There was only one little hitch--Auntie D forgot the bottles. She had to rush home during mass and get them before the babies started screaming for them.
All the babies have or are getting teeth now. Jacob has four; Caleb has two; and Sydni has one coming in. They continue to amaze us. Sydni comes up with something new to show us every day. She loves to imitate what you do so be careful.
Caleb and Jacob had a post-op check-up on Monday, March 19th. They came through their surgeries just fine. Jacob had a check-up from his ear infection on Tuesday, March 20th. He ended up getting one of his last immunization shots for the first year while he was there and the doctor gave him a clean bill of health.
Jacob has two more teeth coming in (on top). Caleb has one tooth that is just starting to come in. Sydni has a case of conjunctivitis in her right eye. She's taken prescription eye drops and is improving.
Stats: Sydni weighs 18 lbs. 10 oz. Jacob weighs 18 lbs. Caleb weighs 17 lbs. 13 oz.All the babies had their monthly synagis shots today. Jacob has a viral infection and an ear infection. He is now on medication and will hopefully feel much better soon. (Mommy and Auntie D are both sick -- Granny Gran and Grandpa are just getting over being sick -- hopefully the other babies won't get sick too!) His teeth continue to bother him. His favorite thing now is to take the pacifier and rub it across his gums. Sydni and Caleb are both teething but show no visible signs of teeth yet. Sydni is back to her old self. She can't stop smiling and is packing on the weight. Caleb is starting to "talk" a lot more. He squeals quite often (usually at night).
Jacob had a minor complication from his circumcision but is doing great now. Caleb came through with flying colors. Sydni still thinks she is the only baby in the house (this started after she spent the weekend with Auntie D and Granny Gran and Grandpa Oviedo by herself).
Poor little Jacob has bitten himself a couple times now that he has two teeth. Luckily he hasn't bitten Sydni or Caleb even though they all like to grab each others fingers (and anything else they can).
Jacob has two teeth!!! Yippee!! He started teething a couple of months ago and he started breaking in a tooth last month. The first one is very visible and the second one is following closely behind. Caleb and Sydni are also teething -- but they started later and don't have any visible teeth yet.
Jacob and Caleb had their circumcision surgeries on Friday, February 16th. Both boys are doing great. Mommy Diane and Granny Gran Oviedo took them early Friday morning to the hospital in Austin to get this procedure done. They were troopers during the entire event. They even got little certificates for being so brave. They should be all healed up within a week.
Sydni had her first sleep over away from home on Thursday and Friday night. She spent the night with Auntie D at Granny Gran and Grandpa Oviedo's house so Mommy could take the boys for their surgery and look after them. That little princess is even more spoiled than ever after having all the attention to herself for three days. Mommy Diane had to send Daddy Keith to the house to get Auntie D to bring her back because she was having too much fun! The kids all missed each other. They each watched videos of the others while they were apart and screamed for each other.
Happy Anniversary Mommy & Daddy
Stats: Sydni weighs 17 lbs. 6 1/2 oz. Jacob weighs 17 lbs. 10 oz. Caleb weighs 17 lbs. 3 1/2 oz.The babies had another synagis shot today. They will probably have another shot next month and then that should be it since flu season will be winding down by then.
Stats: Sydni weighs 17 lbs. Jacob weighs 16 lbs. 15 oz. Caleb weighs 16 lbs. 8 oz. All are measuring around 25 inches long. The babies had a well kids check up today. The boys have been fighting a cold all week so their appetites have been lacking. Sydni still has her appetite so that's why she's passed the boys.
Stats: Sydni weighs 15 lbs. 10 oz. Jacob weighs 16 lbs. 5 oz. Caleb weighs 15 lbs. 9 oz.The babies had their monthly shots today. Caleb has been a little sick with a cold and an ear infection but has gained back his appetite. All three have a hearty appetite. They are now eating rice cereal and small amounts of baby food with their formula. They love applesauce but didn't care too much for pears or bananas. They are some of the messiest eaters (made even messier when you are trying to feed more than one at a time) and don't like to wait for their food.
